* Akwa Ibom PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, handing over a car key to one of the beneficiaries of the Usoro Akpanusoh economic empowerment programme
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Paul Ekpo, says results from statistics he made recently showed that political office holders from his party have given out a minimum of 200 cars to their supporters across the state within the past three months, and still counting.
Ekpo stated this in Uquo, Esit Eket local government area, on Monday, during the third constituency briefing and empowerment programme of the member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno in the state assembly, Usoro Akpanusoh, who gave his constituents 23 mini buses, 11 saloon cars, 38 motorcycles, and several other mouthwatering economic empowerment items as appreciation for being elected to serve them in the legislative arm of government.
Ekpo said the level of empowerment in the area of mini buses donated to constituents was unprecedented in the party, while he described the financial assistance lawmakers have extended to people as wonderful.
“The people who are doing handwork, level of trading and the level of empowerment are great. And for us, we turned around and discovered that all these things came from the Peoples Democratic Party”, he said.
Ekpo noted that the party has acknowledged opinions of stakeholders in Esit Eket and Ibeno over the performances and empowerment schemes sponsored by Akpanusoh in his constituency.
“We’ve seen what he (Akpanusoh) he has done and we have heard everything said about him. We know what is called critical stakeholders and we know their roles and the weight of their utterances.
“Today, we’ve discovered that the critical stakeholders of Esit Eket and Ibeno have acknowledged the work of Usoro Akpanusoh.
“Usoro did it the first time, second time, third time and he has said he will do it again the fourth time before the expiration of the current tenure”, he said.
Ekpo said that the call for Esit Eket and Ibeno people to ensure Akpanusoh’s re-election, made by Mr. Okpolupm Etteh, Akpanusoh’s predecessor who is currently serving as senior special assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on general duties, had been acknowledged by the party.
“You’re doing very well and the party is proud of you. The party is also proud of all its products. This party breeds leaders and we shall continue to breed more leaders”, Ekpo told Akpanusoh and those present at the occasion.
The Akpanusoh constituency briefing, which was preceded by a thanksgiving service commemorating the lawmaker’s 47th birthday celebration had in attendance the state’s commissioner for works, Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, who represented Governor Udom Emmanuel; Deputy Governor Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke; lawmakers, traditional rulers, women, and youth group, among others.
