RE: Akpabio v. Emmanuel: Who’ll  control state PDP in 2019

. Governor Udom Emmanuel (M), Senator Godswill Akpabio (R) & Deputy Governor Moses Ekpo (L) at a PDP meeting recently

I read an article on page 39 of Nation Newspaper of sunday October 15, 2017 with the above title written by Sam Egburonu wherein he alleged the existence of conflict between the leader of the PDP in the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio over the control of the party structure at the state.

The article which portrays the true intention of its author- which is to deceive people that there are cracks in the party at the state level,so as to help motivate external support for the opposition party which his colleague Dare Odufowokan had assured on page 38 that their fortunes are improving. However, the harder both fiction writers tried to place concrete premises to support their skewed conclusion, the faster their argument fell flat on the face .

Egburonu is aware of the igbo proverb that a person who was absent at the funeral will start the exhumation of the corpse from the leg and that’s a taboo in igboland. Not being on ground in Akwa ibom and obviously not understanding how things work here, both Egburonu and Odufowokan should have undertaken a detailed and unbiased research on the topic and area before penning their fiction as reality. Had they done that they would have been notified that the state Exco of the party just concluded a federal constituency tour where it went round preaching zoning and begging those not favoured by zoning to refrain from purchasing nomination forms. At each of the stop points for the tour, the party exco was welcomed by a mammoth crowd. At the close of purchase of forms more than 1120 persons sought 31 chairmanship positions and 329 councillorship positions through our party, whereas in the opposition party(Which the authors are promoting) many positions remain vacant till date, while those filled are featherweight. It should be noted that there was no ward or local government area where a candidate emerged unopposed in our party -how else can a party be rated, if not by the confidence reposed on it by credible and vibrant candidates across its jurisdiction.

If they had as much as asked few persons in AKWA ibom state about how the two parties stood, they would have been informed that recently the APC Senatorial Candidate for Eket Senatorial District, Hon. Bassey Etienam defected with his supporters back to the PDP; Nsit Atai was totally coloured PDP penultimate week when former house of Assembly member Udo Darby, former Council Chairman, Sunny Ossom and political strongman Sunny Elijah emptied the remnants of APC into PDP. In nsit ibom Prof. Nseabasi Akpan, Hon. Anietie Ekong and Ubong Iyoho led a tsunami that swept APC off the entire local government area. Scores of credible people have been returning to the party, regretting their ill advised and emotional decision of 2015. If only the authors had asked, they would have been informed that two APC exists here- the real APC at Udotung Ubo street and the other APC at atiku abubakar, whereas there is only one PDP.

On the issue of conflict between Udom and Akpabio, as a member of the very body which the gentleman claims is being dragged,I state here and for the records that the party under the chairmanship of Obong Paul Ekpo recognises the Governor as the leader of the party and has a cordial relationship with all her frontline members. Senator Akpabio enjoys a warm relationship with members of the party hierarchy; he has issued several press statements and also personally stated that he has no problem whatsoever with Governor Udom Emmanuel whom he has repeatedly endorsed for a second term. Just last week the distinguished senator issued one of such statements signed by his media aide Anietie Ekong, debunking any conflict with the Governor and restating his confidence in his successor. We know that no matter what senator Akpabio and the Governor say about their relationship, those who do not wish them well will continue to fabricate tales by moonlight.

But our answer to Sam’s article will be drawn from a book that the author believes in- the Bible, psalms 2:1-4 “why do the nation’s rage and the people’s meditate a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, agaisnt Jehovah and agaisnt his annointed, saying let us break their bonds asunder and cast away their cords from us. He that sitted in the heavens will laugh: the Lord will have them in derision. ” so please stop reasoning vain things about the God sent leadership of our governor and trying to sow seeds of discord where none exists.

Finally, I have discovered that Mr. EGBURONU has been an unrepentant ill wisher of our great party over the years but his wishes have always been fruitless and unyielding-this time will surely not be different. In 2013 January, Sam had predicted the fall of PDP in Abia State because of the defection of some persons to the APC. Please my question is, which party is governing Abia currently?

The peoples Democratic Party in Akwa ibom state is a united family under the chairmanship of Obong Paul Ekpo and the able leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel, who bears a divine mandate, and no propaganda can change that.
