* Luke & Effiong Bassey
Member representing Oron/Udung Uko state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Effiong Bassey, has expressed confidence that the Speaker of the assembly, Onofiok Luke, will give Etinan federal constituency an incredibly wonderful representation when he gets elected into the National Assembly in 2019, saying that Luke “has vast knowledge of parliamentary practices on his fingertips”.
Mr. Bassey, who stated this in an interview with Propeller Newspaper recently, noted that Luke has remained a popular political figure among the masses of Etinan federal constituency which comprises Etinan, Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium local government areas.
He said Luke has discharged his legislative duties in the best interest of Nsit Ubium state constituency, the area he represents in the House, his colleagues and the state.
Bassey recently held a massive constituency briefing where he gave out cars, motorcycles, cash grants and several other empowerment items as appreciation to his people for electing him as lawmaker.
He said Mr. Luke’s idea of adding empowerment schemes into lawmakers constituency briefings was that which propelled the avalanche of largesse across the 26 state constituencies in Akwa Ibom.
He said, “The Speaker has proven why he was elected in the first place. Aside from his love for empowerment of his people, which, of course, he is known for; he has also taken steps to unite members of the legislature by ensuring that his style of leadership brings us together.
“He is a caring Speaker. He cares for the welfare of lawmakers. He is not a selfish leader, he thinks about every lawmaker being on the same train. I love his style of administering the House.
“He has parliamentary prowess in him because of the experience he gathered from the former fifth Assembly.
“And that is why we decided in my constituency that every lawmaker should be giving a second term.
“As we’ve seen, all the ideas the Speaker is using to lead us, he gathered them from the Fifth Assembly”.
“He does not depend on side talks. During our executive sessions, he makes sure everyone is carried along, and does not mind whether someone offended him.
“He is going to give Etinan, Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium federal constituency a fantastic representation at the National Assembly because he has vast knowledge of parliamentary practices on his fingertips.
“He knows it. Whenever one asks him, even if he is just waking up from sleep, he will give you good ideas about parliamentary practices. He is a good man, and he is a good candidate for Etinan federal constituency seat”.
