The newly appointed Police Commissioner of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Adeyemi Samuel Ogunjemilusi, has assumed duty.

Ogunjemilusi who was formerly Commissioner of Police, Welfare Department of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is the 23rd commissioner of police in the state.

He replaces Mu’azu Zubairu Halilu who had gone for a course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Plateau State.

Ogunjemilusi, while briefing journalists in Uyo, Wednesday, said the command under him is determined to make life difficult for criminal elements operating in the state.

“Let me therefore warn that that tough time awaits criminal elements in the state.

“The Command under my watch will be guided by the principles of integrity, professionalism, and quality service delivery.

“In this regard, special attention will be paid to the reorganisation of the command’s tactical units such as: Anti-cultism, Anti-kidnapping, Anti-Roberry, State Intelligence Bureau and Quickly Response Squad”.

This measure, Ogunjemilusi said, is put in place to “effectively combat heinous crimes such as kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, rape, and murder”.

Ogunjemilusi said he had reviewed the security architecture in the state, as well held a brainstorming session with principal officers in order to” reposition the command for effective service delivery”.

He also commended officers and men of the force for ensuring a hitch free yuletide period, even as he expressed his desire to strengthen the relationship between the police and sister security agencies in the state.

“I wish to assure the state government that the Command will work assiduously to create enabling environment for job creation, wealth creation, tourist attraction, industrialization, and constructive engagement of our youths to actualize the dream of a great Akwa Ibom State”, he added.
