[G]overnor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Thursday, sacked his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Udo Ekpenyong.
A press release signed and made available to newsmen in the state by the Commissioner for Information and strategy, Charles Udoh, said Ekpenyong was relieved of his appointment with immediate effect.
He equally thanked him for the services he rendered as commissioner in the state and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The government did not give reasons for Mr. Ekpenyong sack. But sources close to the Government House in Uyo told PREMIUM TIMES that “the government’s action has to do with an alleged friction between the governor and his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio”.
Propellerng.com could not ascertained the authenticity of the information at press time.
Mr. Akpabio, who is the Senate Minority Leader, a few days ago was said accused Governor Emmanuel of neglecting his district – Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District – since he took over from him.
Akpabio’s remark, reports say, unsettled Mr Udom and his loyalists because of its implications for the governor’s aspiration to seek for re-election in 2019.
