The need to encourage stronger collaboration among the different arms and agencies of government, on Friday came to the fore as the Deputy Leader Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Ime Okon called on government to further its frontiers of information dissemination to keep the people abreast with its policies and programmes.
Mr Okon who serves as Chairman House committee on information bared his mind on the avoidable distrust that greeted request for construction of the Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge in Lagos, when he accompanied other lawmakers to inspect progress of work on the facility, which the assembly gave approval for construction in 2017.
The Ibiono Ibom representative expressed satisfaction with the level of work carried out on the new lodge, saying the state government could have enjoyed better cooperation on the relocation of the old governor’s lodge due to its unfavourable location, in keeping with its commitment to enhancing the socio-economic fortunes of the state through industrialization, if the people were properly informed.
He noted that the visit to Lagos was necessitated by the 6th Assembly’s uncompromised pro-peoples stance on matters that exerts direct consequence on the people, noting there was no way tax payers money could have been appropriated for without the assembly getting involved through such monitoring and inspections to ensure the state derives maximum utility on its expenditures.
The Deputy Leader called on people of the state to lend their support to the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration to sustain the ongoing agenda of revamping the state’s economy, saying the governor’s passion and commitment to building an economically viable state was total and worthy of mentioning at a time some states of the federation were growing more insolvent.
Okon used the visit to restate the commitment of the assembly under the leadership of Barr. Onofiok Luke to ensure genuine concerns of the people are given deserving legislative attention, saying more than ever, the legislature through public hearings and seminars have been consistent in carrying the people along in all of its programmes, decisions and policies.
