The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly will hold a special public hearing on Monday to get inputs from the people to enable it vote wisely in the ongoing process for the amendment of the country’s constitution.
Speaker of the assembly, Onofiok Luke, made this known in Obot Akara on Thursday, last week, during the constituency briefing and empowerment programme hosted by Idongesit Ntekpere, the lawmaker representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara state constituency.
The public hearing, according to Mr Luke, is to among others, provide briefings on autonomy for the legislature, and the local government, change of name of the Nigeria police Force, Independent Candidature, quick dispensation of Justice, time frame the state government to draw budget funds, time frame for the conduct of primaries and general election among others.
The Speaker also said that Governor Udom Emmanuel will present the position of the State government during the public hearing which has been scheduled to begin by 12 pm.
The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had earlier proposed a total of 32 amendments to the constitution, and has transmitted same to the state houses of assembly for deliberation and passage.
